Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Jan. 23

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

1 Sergeant O’Rourke - Favorite takes a huge class drop to face much easier; saves all the ground under Rafael Bejarano.

5 South Sound - This is her first race on dirt; she’s run on turf thrice and over synthetics twice.

Long Shot - 3 D’ya Knowwhatimean

Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

3 Advisory - Did a pop and stop in last facing winners for the first time; his race two back is fast enough to upset these.

6 The Cleaners - Logical chalk ran the fastest last race in graduating; facing winners for the first time, must repeat that.

Long Shot - 1 Salutos Amigos

Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up

5 He’s a Dance Star - Is a consistent 5-for-5 in the money down the hillside turf course; reunited with Rafael Bejarano.

7 Hotradamus - If they go too fast early, this guy will pick up the pieces late; start of the P6 with a $419K carryover.

Long Shot - 2 A Toast to You

Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds

1 White Front Freddy - Expect a full bore speed effort from the rail; in a race this bad, having the early lead is an advantage.

5 New Order - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this bottom level; he may duel White Front Freddy, or he may not.

Long Shot - 6 Exponentially

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

5 Thunder Cole - Peter Eurton has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; the other horse is long shot Roman Tizzy with Joe Talamo.

9 Public Interest - Tepid chalk is a dead late closer; tougher task with the turf rail out 24 feet tonight.

Long Shot - 8 Through My Eyes

Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up

4 Red Sharp Humor - Claimed by Mike Pender and shoved right back at us; this is the bottom in SoCal, so it’s Phoenix after this.

8 Only the Gold - Parking lot post can be difficult in a 2-turn mile; lots of ground loss going into the first turn.

Long Shot - 2 Warren’s Joe T.

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

4 Miss Well Molded - Third start off the claim by Doug O’Neill; the last two she was protected, today she can be had for $25K.

6 Tanquerray - Dead late closer has won 2 straight; tougher task today with the turf rail out 24 feet, must get help up front.

Long Shot - 2 Mangita

Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds

5 Bluegrass Fox Trot - Stride late in a field that made for a key race; has a puncher’s chance to complete the Pick 6.

3 Runaway Que - Favorite did everything but win last time; it was a career best race, so the key is if he can repeat the race.

Long Shot - 8 Sir Macho

Best Bet - 1 Sergeant O’Rourke (race 1)
