Tyson allegedly hits photographer at LAX
Mike Tyson allegedly hit a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport and was booked and released on suspicion of misdemeanor battery Wednesday, police said.
Tyson and the unnamed photographer both want to press charges for misdemeanor battery, police said.
The paparazzo told police that the former heavyweight boxing champion struck him once, airport police spokesman Sgt. Jim Holcomb said. The photographer fell to the ground and was treated for a cut to his forehead at a hospital.
Tyson's spokeswoman Tammy Brook said the boxer was traveling with his wife and 10-month-old child Wednesday afternoon when he was attacked by an overly aggressive paparazzo. The 43-year-old acted in self-defense to protect his child, she said.
"Some witness statements support Tyson's version, others support the photographer's," Holcomb said.
Paparazzi often camp out at Los Angeles' largest airport to get shots of celebrities in transit.
"I've heard people were following him into the men's room and trying to take his picture there," said Tyson's defense attorney, David Chesnoff. "My advice to him is going to be to vigorously press charges against what everyone agrees are ridiculously aggressive photographers."
Tyson was cooperative as he waited in a holding cell at the airport police station, Holcomb said. The photographer will be booked once he is released from the hospital, police said.

Kyle Busch loses points for Nationwide penalty
NASCAR docked Kyle Busch 25 Nationwide points and fined crew chief Jason Ratcliff $5,000 after Busch's No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota failed inspection before last week's race at Texas Motor Speedway.
NASCAR also placed Ratcliff on probation through the end of the year.
The penalty means Busch now leads Carl Edwards by 247 points with two races remaining. The infraction was discovered Nov. 5. Busch went on to win the Nationwide race at the 1.5-mile track Saturday.
Also: Michael Phelps finished second in the 200-meter medley final at the short-course World Cup in Stockholm, struggling in the old-style swimsuit that will become standard next year.
Phelps clocked 1 minute 53.93 seconds. He was more than two seconds behind South Africa's Darian Townsend, who won in 1:51.79, but Phelps is one of the only swimmers at the meet already using the speed-sapping suit.
A total of nine world records were set in the World Cup, three by Jing Zhao of China.
The German goalkeeper who was struck and killed by a train left a suicide note, police said, and Robert Enke's widow said he had been suffering from depression.
Speaking at a news conference called by his club in Hannover, Germany, Teresa Enke said her 32-year-old husband was afraid their adopted daughter would be taken away from the family if his illness became public knowledge. The couple's biological daughter died three years ago from a heart problem, when she was 2.
