Britain's Hamilton wins Monaco Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton overcame an early accident and wet conditions Sunday to win the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo.

The McLaren driver, who started third on the grid, finished 3 seconds ahead of BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica, while pole-sitter Felipe Massa of Ferrari was third at Formula One's most famous race.

Hamilton, a 23-year-old Briton, swiped the wall early on but took advantage of Massa's mistake on the slick street circuit to earn his sixth career victory.

Ex-Buccaneers player McHale found dead

Authorities are investigating the death of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Thomas McHale, who was found dead at a friend's home in Wesley Chapel, Fla. He was 45.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said McHale was found by the friend in the Tampa-area home. Authorities say foul play is not suspected. An autopsy has been scheduled.

McHale played for the Bucs from 1987-92, then spent two years with the Philadelphia Eagles and a year with the Miami Dolphins.

Also: A man convicted in a multimillion dollar investment fraud whose victims included pro football players has committed suicide in a Georgia jail.

Kirk Wright hanged himself Saturday in the Union City jail, Betty Honey, an investigator with the county Medical Examiner's office, said.

The 37-year-old Wright, of Marietta, Ga., was convicted Wednesday of leading an investment scheme that bilked millions of dollars from clients ranging from NFL players to his mother.

Wright faced as many as 710 years in prison and a fine of up to $16 million.

Bulls' Noah charged with having marijuana

Authorities in Gainesville, Fla., have charged Chicago Bulls forward and former Florida star Joakim Noah with possession of marijuana and having an open container of alcohol.

Gainesville police spokesman Sgt. Rick Roberts said Noah was arrested around 1:50 a.m. after an officer spotted him on a sidewalk holding a plastic cup containing an amber drink, a violation of city law. During a search at the station, officers found marijuana in his pocket.

Noah was released after signing a notice to appear before a judge -- standard procedure for such offenses. He could face up to six months in jail and a $500 fine for the marijuana charge.

Also: North Carolina, the two-time College World Series runner-up, was one of four Atlantic Coast Conference schools selected Sunday as regional hosts for the NCAA tournament.

The top-ranked Tar Heels, who lost to Oregon State in the championship game in Omaha the past two years, join conference champion Miami, Florida State and North Carolina State as ACC hosts.

The Big 12 was second among conferences with three schools hosting four-team regionals, including Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

The Big West (Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State), Pac-10 (Arizona State and Stanford) and Southeastern Conference (Georgia and Louisiana State) each had two schools chosen as host sites.

The other regional hosts are Coastal Carolina, Michigan and Rice.

Trevor Lawrence scored 36 points to lead the Las Vegas Stars past the Portland Chinooks, 133-122, Sunday night in Portland, Ore. Keena Payton, Demario Butler, and Eddie Shelby each had 21 points for the Stars, who are 6-4 and have won six straight.

College of Southern Nevada softball player Amy Aicher, who batted .364 with 30 RBIs for the Coyotes this past season, has been named a third-team junior college All-American.
