Kims shoot 67s, lead LPGA's season finale

Christina Kim and Mi Hyun Kim shot bogey-free rounds of 5-under-par 67 Thursday to share the first-round lead of the LPGA Tour's ADT Championship at West Palm Beach, Fla. They lead Juli Inkster and Paula Creamer by one stroke in the season-ending tournament.

Top-ranked Lorena Ochoa was leading until a shocking finish to her round dropped her to seventh. She hit two balls into the water on the 17th hole for a quadruple bogey and finished with a 70, five shots ahead of the projected cut.

Annika Sorenstam, needing a victory to avoid her first winless season since she was a rookie in 1994, played decently enough, but three balls in the water sent her to a 74 and put her in a tie for 14th.

Also: Kevin Sutherland shot a 10-under 62 to take a four-stroke lead over Rocco Mediate and Joel Kribel after the first round of the Pebble Beach Invitational in Pebble Beach, Calif. The event features players from the PGA, LPGA, Champions and Nationwide tours as well as mini-tour players and amateur foursomes.

Torrealba, Mets close to $14.4 million deal

The New York were close to filling their big hole at catcher, nearing a contract with free agent Yorvit Torrealba after completing a two-year deal for backup Ramon Castro. The moves would leave Paul Lo Duca, New York's starting catcher the past two seasons, looking for a job.

Torrealba, 29, never has been known for his hitting, but he was a steady defensive presence for the National League champion Colorado Rockies this season. He and the Mets were closing in on a $14.4 million, three-year contract, according to a person familiar with the talks who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been finalized.

The Mets retained Castro to be their backup again, though he could now get more playing time than he did behind Lo Duca. Castro passed a physical after agreeing to a $4.6 million, two-year contract.

Also: New York tax officials say Derek Jeter should have been taxed as a state resident from 2001 to 2003, which potentially could cost the Yankees shortstop millions of dollars.

Jeter says he is a Florida resident, but the State Division of Taxation of Finance argues that he had a New York residence during that period.

UCLA guard Collison to miss 10 more days

Darren Collison will be out another 10 days for No. 2 UCLA because of a sprained left knee, with the point guard projected to play for the first time Nov. 28 against George Washington.

Collison is working out, but he's not practicing with the team. He wore a knee brace for the first time Wednesday while doing drills but doesn't feel confident pushing off on his left leg. The junior injured his knee in UCLA's first preseason game Nov. 2.

Also: Kyle Korver will be out seven to 10 days because of a strained groin, the same injury that sidelined the Philadelphia 76ers forward during the preseason. He is averaging 9.1 points a game.

Sixth-ranked David Ferrer overwhelmed No. 8 Richard Gasquet 6-1, 6-1 to win the Gold Group and clinch a semifinal berth in the Masters Cup at Shanghai, China.
