Twirling Candy remains perfect
with victory in Del Mar Derby
Twirling Candy won for the fourth time in four career starts, beating Jairzihno by 3¼ lengths in Sunday's $300,000 Del Mar Derby at Del Mar, Calif.
Ridden by Joel Rosario and trained by John Sadler, the 3-year-old winner ran 1 1/8 miles on the turf course in 1 minute, 46.96 seconds and paid $2.40, $2.20 and $2.10. He earned $180,000.
Also: R Heat Lightning and jockey Garrett Gomes took control late and beat Alienation by four lengths in the $250,000 Spinaway Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Track superstar Bolt aiming
for chance to play pro soccer
Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt said he'll attempt to play professional soccer once he brings his track and field career to an end.
The world and Olympic 100- and 200-meter champion said he believes he has four years left in track and field, and in that time wants to lower his world record in the 100 to 9.4 seconds.
Bolt, 24, said he then intends to try his luck in soccer for two years.
Also: Ted Schulz won the First Tee Open for his first Champions Tour title, holing a 12-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole en route to a 2-under 70 and a one-stroke victory over Tom Pernice Jr. in Pebble Beach, Calif. The 50-year-old Schulz -- in the field as an alternate in his 12th start on the 50-and-over tour -- finished at 14-under 202.
English star Laura Davies won the Austrian Ladies Open at Wiener Neustadt, Austria, for her 75th worldwide victory, closing with a 2-under 70 to beat France's Virginie Lagoutte-Clement by a stroke.
At 46 years, 11 months, she broke her own record as the oldest winner in Ladies European Tour history.
Miguel Angel Jimenez won the European Masters, shooting 4-under 67 to beat Edoardo Molinari by three strokes in Crans-Sur-Sierre, Switzerland. Jimenez finished at 21-under 263.
Sue Bird made a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 2.8 seconds left, capping a 15-0 run as the visiting Seattle Storm beat the defending WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury 91-88 to sweep the best-of-3 Western Conference finals.
In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals, Angel McCoughtry scored 13 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Atlanta Dream to an 81-75 victory over the host New York Liberty.
