Lady Rebels overcome poor shooting, upend Utah State

Dakota Gonzalez scored 19 points to help UNLV overcome a poor shooting performance in a 46-38 win over Utah State in a Mountain West women's basketball game Wednesday at Cox Pavilion.

The combined 84 points marked an all-time low for a Lady Rebels game, breaking the standard of 86 set in a 47-39 loss to Utah on Jan. 13, 2007.

Brooke Johnson added 11 points for UNLV (10-7, 3-3), which shot 21.2 percent from the field (14 of 66) but never trailed in the second half.

Nikki Wheatley had 11 rebounds and Amie Callaway 10 for the Lady Rebels, who held a 47-42 edge in rebounds — including a 20-9 advantage on the offensive end.

Funda Nakkasoglu scored 10 points to lead the Aggies (8-10, 3-4), who trailed 15-13 at halftime and 30-21 after three quarters in their 14th straight loss to the Lady Rebels in Las Vegas.
