Late rally gives 51s 6-3 victory in 10 innings at Tacoma
Cory Vaughn and Brandon Allen hit consecutive RBI singles in the 10th inning as the 51s rallied for a 6-3 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers in a Pacific Coast League game Saturday in Tacoma, Wash.
Las Vegas (25-12) tied the score at 3 in the ninth on Danny Muno’s one-out double to left that scored Travis Taijeron from first base.
Taijeron went 3-for-5 with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning that tied the score at 2. He also drove in a run with a fielder’s choice grounder that capped the 10th-inning scoring.
Allen also had three hits, and Muno, Darrell Ceciliani, T.J. Rivera and Matt Reynolds had two hits apiece for the 51s, who had a 15-5 edge in hits.
Las Vegas starter Tyler Pill gave up three runs on five hits and no walks and struck out six in eight innings.
Zach Thornton (3-1) tossed a perfect ninth on seven pitches to pick up the win, and Chase Bradford worked a perfect 10th for his fifth save.
Stefen Romero went 2-for-4 with a two-run first-inning homer for the Rainiers (15-22), and he doubled and scored on Jesus Montero’s fourth-inning sacrifice fly.
Seattle Mariners center fielder Austin Jackson, on his first game of a rehabilitation assignment with Tacoma, went 2-for-4 as the Rainiers’ designated hitter.
Tacoma starter Stephen Landazuri gave up two runs on seven hits and one walk and struck out three in six innings. Reliever Dominic Leone (0-1) was charged with four runs on six hits in the ninth and 10th.
