Legacy falls in Little League West Regional
August 15, 2009 - 9:00 pm
Legacy's bid to become the first Southern Nevada team to reach the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, Pa., came to an abrupt and harsh halt Friday.
Kiko Garcia hit three home runs, drove in six runs and pitched a three-hitter as Southern California representative Chula Vista eliminated Legacy 15-2 in a semifinal game of the Little League West Regional in San Bernardino, Calif.
The game was called after four innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Isiah Armenta hit two three-run homers for Chula Vista (5-0), the tournament's No. 2 seed.
Legacy (2-3), the No. 3 seed, got its two runs in the top of the third inning on a home run by Matt Almodovar.
In the second semifinal, top-seeded Granite Bay/Loomis (5-0), the Northern California representative, beat Glendale, Ariz. (1-4), 9-8.
Chula Vista and Granite Bay/Loomis will meet Sunday in the regional title game, with the winner advancing to the international tournament for 11- and 12-year-olds in Williamsport.
