Locomotives rally past Redwoods, clinch berth in UFL title game

The Locomotives scored the final 10 points of the game to claim a 16-10 victory over the California Redwoods in a United Football League game Saturday night in San Jose, Calif.

With the win, Las Vegas (3-2) clinched a berth in the UFL title game, set for Nov. 27 at Sam Boyd Stadium, against the Florida Tuskers.

Locomotives quarterback J.P. Losman threw a touchdown pass to Andrae Thurman in the fourth quarter, and Graham Gano connected on his third field goal of the game.

Las Vegas allowed just three points over the final three quarters, after falling behind 7-0 on a first-quarter TD run by the Redwoods' Cory Ross, who had 111 yards on 19 carries.

Losman finished 16 of 29 for 199 yards, and Locomotives wideout David Kircus had four receptions for 104 yards. Samie Parker had four catches for 50 yards, and Marcel Shipp added 66 rushing yards on 19 carries.

California was inside the Las Vegas 20-yard line five times but converted just one of those opportunities. The Locomotives were 1-for-3 in the red zone.

Redwoods QB Shane Boyd completed 21 of 31 passes for 194 yards, with one interception. California (2-3) finished with 333 total yards, while Las Vegas gained just 266.

The Locomotives next host winless New York on Friday.
