Meadows tops Laughlin in 2A baseball tourney

Justin Diamond fired a two-hitter Thursday to lead The Meadows to a 6-0 victory over Laughlin in the Class 2A Southern League Tournament in Needles, Calif.
Diamond struck out nine and also hit a double for The Meadows.
Brandon Thomas supplied two hits and three RBIs for the Mustangs, who used a four-run sixth inning to pull away.
The Meadows (23-3-1) plays Needles (17-8) at 12:30 p.m. today. Needles advanced with a 13-0 win over Lincoln County.
Laughlin (15-7-1) takes on Lincoln County (17-6-1) in an elimination game at 10 a.m. The winner plays the loser of the Needles-Meadows game at 3 p.m.
■ Tonopah 13, Indian Springs 4 -- At Alamo, the Muckers rallied for nine runs in the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie in the Class 1A Southern Region Tournament.
Tonopah's Andrew Snyder was 2-for-3 with a double.
SOFTBALL
■ Indian Springs 8, Tonopah 2 -- At Alamo, winning pitcher Brandi Bryl went 4-for-4 with a triple, a home run and four RBIs as the Thunderbirds beat the Muckers in the Class 1A Southern Region Tournament.
Heather Thormahlen was 3-for-4 with a triple and Alexxa Reinke added a double and a triple for Indian Springs.
Bryl threw a seven-hitter, striking out seven and walking none.
■ Pahranagat Valley 15, Sandy Valley 0 -- At Alamo, Kyla Mortensen threw a two-hitter as the Panthers routed the Sidewinders in the Class 1A Southern Region Tournament.
Mortensen struck out nine, walked two and hit a double.
■ Needles 10, Calvary Chapel 0 -- At Needles, Abby Chandler pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI as the Mustangs beat the Lions in six innings in the Class 2A Southern League Tournament.
Calvary Chapel's Phallen Nelson doubled.
■ Lincoln County 14, Mountain View 0 -- At Needles, K.C. Jensen pitched a five-inning perfect game with eight strikeouts as the Lynx routed the Saints.
Jensen also drove in two runs for Lincoln County, and Melanie Florence went 3-for-3 with a solo home run.
Mountain View pitcher Lexi Alley had five strikeouts.
