Conor McGregor-Nate Diaz rematch set for UFC 202

So much for the ridiculous speculation about Conor McGregor fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr.

McGregor will get a rematch with Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 202 on Aug. 20. The bout was announced during the broadcast of UFC 199 on Saturday night.

A source close to the organization told the Review-Journal the event would likely take place in Las Vegas, but no site was announced.

Diaz handed McGregor the first loss of his UFC career with a second-round submission victory on March 5 in Las Vegas. A rematch was supposed to take place at UFC 200, but McGregor was pulled from the event for refusing to participate in a series of promotional appearances.

A public spat between McGregor and the UFC followed, with McGregor announcing his retirement and feeding into speculation he may pursue a boxing match with Mayweather.

All of that appears in the past.

McGregor, who is still the featherweight champion, will get the rematch he desired.

The first bout took place at 170 pounds, 25 pounds above his class. UFC officials did not specify in which weight class the rematch would be contested.
