UFC flyweight Smolka submits Holohan in Dublin

Louis Smolka submitted Paddy Holohan in the second round of the re-worked main event of Saturday's Ultimate Fighting Championship card in Dublin.

Smolka and Holohan provided an entertaining bout in the flyweight headliner after the top two fights on the card had to be canceled due to injuries.

"I'm happy to get the win and to be able to rise to the occasion," Smolka said. "The Irish crowd are so loud and so passionate – they took it to another level."

The bout was pushed to a main event after Joseph Duffy suffered a concussion in training and had to pull out of a scheduled bout against Dustin Poirier on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, a heavyweight bout between Ben Rothwell and Stipe Miocic was scrapped due to an injury to Miocic.

Smolka and Holohan lacked the name value, but delivered on the action. The two traded submission attempts until the hometown hero finally succumbed to a rear-naked choke.

"It was a really good fight. I enjoyed it out there," Holohan said. "This has been a crazy week for me. But hats off to Louis. He came here and did the job in my own back yard."

Also on the card, which streamed exclusively on the UFC's online platform Fight Pass, lightweight Norman Parke earned a decision over Reza Madadi in a lightweight bout.

Neil Seery submitted Jon De Los Reyes in the second round of a flyweight bout and welterweights Darren Till and Nicolas Dalby fought to a majority draw.
