UFC’s Nick Diaz faces DUI charge
September 12, 2014 - 5:53 pm
Ultimate Fighting Championship star Nick Diaz was arrested Sept. 6 on suspicion of DUI in his hometown of Lodi, Calif., according to several reports.
Diaz was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, obstructing a police officer, destruction of evidence and driving with a suspended license. The obstruction and destruction charges stem from Diaz’s attempts to induce vomiting at the police station to rid his body of alcohol.
The Lodi News reported the story first.
Late Friday, reports surfaced that Diaz was charged with DUI on Dec. 12 and was additionally charged for failing to appear in court on the matter.
Diaz last fought in March 2013 before going into a temporary retirement. He is scheduled to return to action against former middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 183 on Jan. 31 in Las Vegas.
“We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering the facts,” the UFC said in a statement. “We understand that there is a legal process that will now take place, and that Nick Diaz will have the opportunity to address the situation in the near future.”
Diaz is due back in court in late September for arraignment on the most recent charges.
