Cup race to set Chase field shown on large screen at LVMS Bullring

NASCAR fans don't have to miss out if they want to see live racing at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring.

Saturday's Sprint Cup Series race from Richmond, Va., will be shown on a large TV screen behind the main grandstand. Coverage of the race, which will set the field for the 10-event Chase for the championship, begins at 4 p.m., when the Bullring gates open.

Saturday's racing at the Bullring will include the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and Spears SRL Southwest Tour.

At The Strip at LVMS, the Pacific Street Car Association takes the stage Saturday and Sunday.

■ NOW IN CHARGE - Tim Richter was named manager of the LVMS Bullring, and Cliff Ricci was hired for the same position at The Strip.

"Cliff and Tim are veteran racers and are longtime members of the racing community here in Las Vegas," LVMS president Chris Powell said in a statement. "They've been involved in the operation of their respective tracks for several years, and we're delighted to have both of them take on greater roles in the management of these two facilities."

Ricci is a former competition eliminator racer and 32-year NHRA technical official who has worked at The Strip at LVMS as its chief technical inspector for 11 years. He has an extensive racing background, having worked at the now-defunct Las Vegas International Speedrome from 1980 through 1999.

Richter is a former Modified racer who has served as the competition manager at the Bullring for the past two years. Richter also will manage the dirt track.

■ DONATING BLOOD - A blood drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at LVMS's infield media center. Proceeds benefit the Las Vegas chapter of Speedway Children's Charities.

Those who donate receive two tickets to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at LVMS on Sept. 29. Other prizes also will be given.
