NASCAR places Robby Gordon on probation for Conway tussle
NASCAR placed driver Robby Gordon on indefinite probation Saturday as a result of a skirmish between him and Kevin Conway on Friday.
Gordon will be allowed to race today in the Sprint Cup race, for which he qualified 38th. Conway was not penalized and competed in Saturday's Nationwide Series race, in which he dropped out after two laps and placed 42nd.
The scuffle was believed to be over lawsuits each has filed against the other over payments from when Conway drove six Cup races for Gordon last year.
Neither would provide details about the confrontation.
Las Vegas Metro public information officer Barbara Morgan told The Associated Press that Conway filed a misdemeanor battery complaint Friday after the quarrel, which occurred about 5 p.m.
Gordon is suing Conway's sponsor, Extenze, in California for $690,000 for races Conway drove for his team. Conway is suing Gordon in North Carolina for $27,000 in money he claims he won as last year's Cup rookie of the year.
