If we put this week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at California in terms of football betting, Jimmie Johnson would be a two-touchdown favorite over the rest of the field. The manner in which he has owned the Fontana track is almost likened to the way that the NFC beat down the AFC for 13 straight years, in the 1980s and ’90s, in the Super Bowl.

The third race of NASCAR’s Chase for the Championship takes us to Kansas Speedway, a race that is considered somewhat of a wild card for most teams. On just about every track on the circuit there is a similar one elsewhere where data and information gained on one translates well to the other. For each of the other races in the Chase, the crew chiefs can review all their notes from earlier this season using several different tracks. But Kansas is much different. It doesn’t run like any track and most teams have to rely on what happened last year to prepare for Sunday’s race.

Austin Dillon started today by setting an NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie record by earning his fifth pole of the year and ended the night by winning the Smith’s 350k at Las Vegas Motor Speedway before an estimated crowd of 40,000.
