Seats widened for NASCAR Weekend

Tickets for the 2011 NASCAR Weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will go on sale Monday.

Although prices have not increased for the second consecutive year, spectators will get more for their money.

In an effort to accommodate a growing population, bench seats in the grandstand will be 2 inches wider than the previous industry standard of 18 inches in time for next year's event.

LVMS's 14th annual NASCAR weekend is expected to be March 5 to 7. The dates will not be official until NASCAR releases its 2011 schedules later this summer. The weekend will include Sprint Cup qualifying on Friday, the Sam's Town 300 Nationwide Series race on Saturday and the Sprint Cup race on Sunday.

Customers purchasing tickets before Aug. 1 will receive two free tickets to the Sept. 25 Las Vegas 350k NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the speedway. For information: LVMS.com or 644-4444.

■ HOT IDEA -- The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will present Southern Nevada's first major fireworks show of Independence Day week during its annual Night of Fire show Thursday.

Racing will feature the Super Modified Racing Association, U.S. Auto Club Midgets and NASCAR Super Late Models beginning at 7 p.m. Other series competing are Chargers, Legends Cars, Thunder Cars, Bombers and Bandoleros.

A traditional attraction will return when a jet-powered dragster is chained to a van and the jet's afterburner destroys it.

Spectators can contribute items to be placed inside the van before it is set ablaze. The track will select the most unique item donated for the ceremonial burn, and the contributor will receive two tickets to the 2011 Sprint Cup race at the speedway.
