■ DRIFTING -- Two of Formula Drift Asia's top stars will compete in the Round 6: After Dark competition Aug. 26 and 27 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A third drifting star will make a long-awaited return to the U.S. Formula Drift series.
Thailand's Saranon Pornpatanarak and Emmanuel Adwitya Amandio of Indonesia are the first two Drift Asia drivers to enter the Formula Drift championship in the eight-year history of the sanctioning body.
A name familiar to Las Vegas drifting fans, Samuel "Crazy Swede" Hubinette will return to the sport at the Round 6: After Dark event. Hubinette has been competing in Torc Traxxas Off-Road Series events. His most recent off-road victory was earned May 28 in Buchanan, Mich.
All three drifters hope to knock current points leader and most recent winner Daijiro Yoshihara of Japan from the podium.
Now in its eighth season, Formula Drift is recognized as the North American professional drifting championship.
Past Las Vegas Formula Drift winners include Tyler McQuarrie (2010) and Tanner Foust (2009).
