Mountain West honors five UNLV track and field athletes

Five UNLV individual athletes were named to the Mountain West Women’s Indoor Track & Field Team after the conference championships in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Rebels’ 1,600-meter relay team also claimed league honors by winning the race at the event.

UNLV’s women finished in fourth place at the meet, the program’s best finish since a fourth-place finish in 2012.

Destiny Smith-Barnett claimed the team’s only individual title with a 7.73-second run in the 60-meter race.

The winning relay team was filled out by Monay Meggs, Mandy Chitwood, Drea Austin and Laura Anuakpado. Chitwood, a Canyon Springs alum, finished second in the 800 meters and Anuakpado placed second in the 400 meters.

MacKenna Howard took second in the shot put and Valley grad Krystal Wharton placed second in the long jump.
