Brooklyn Nets forward Mirza Teletovic, who was taken to the hospital Thursday night after experiencing shortness of breath, will miss the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with multiple blood clots in his lungs.
The team announced Friday that a battery of tests, including a CT scan, revealed the seriousness of his condition.
“Teletovic was diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary embolus (multiple blood clots in the lungs),” the team said in a news release. “He will remain hospitalized in Los Angeles to undergo further diagnostic testing and to begin treatment, which includes blood thinners being administered.
“Due to the nature of blood thinners, Teletovic will be unable to play for the remainder of the season. Once he is cleared for travel, he will return to Brooklyn.”
Teletovic left Thursday night’s 123-84 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center after experiencing shortness of breath and was taken to a local hospital.
Teletovic played seven minutes in the first half and missed three 3-point shots. Nets coach Lionel Hollins said, “(He) said he didn’t feel right and asked me to take him out of the game.”
Teletovic tweeted after the game:
“I had a small problem, but now everything is ok … Thx all fans from Bosnia, Spain and USA for support.”
A 29-year-old Bosnian in his third season with Brooklyn, Teletovic finished the season averaging 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds in 40 games. Over 165 career games (11 starts), he holds averages of 7.0 points and 3.4 rebounds.
