No. 17 Aztecs soar past Saint Mary’s
SAN DIEGO -- Chase Tapley scored 14 points and keyed a 12-3 run late in the first half that helped carry 17th-ranked San Diego State to a 69-55 win over Saint Mary's on Wednesday night.
Malcolm Thomas had 12 points and six of SDSU's 10 blocked shots. The Aztecs (7-0) scored 14 of the first 16 points.
Rob Jones scored a game-high 17 points for Saint Mary's (6-2).
■ No. 21 Brigham Young 77, Creighton 65 -- At Omaha, Neb., Brandon Davies had a career-high 24 points to lead four double-figure scorers for the Cougars (7-0) in their first true road game.
Freshman Doug McDermott led the Bluejays (4-3) with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
■ New Mexico 74, Southern Illinois 59 -- At Carbondale, Ill., Dairese Gray had 15 points to lead four double-figure scorers for the Lobos (5-1). The Salukis (3-4) trailed 33-30 at halftime.
■ Texas Christian 78, Prairie View A&M 61 -- At Fort Worth, Texas, the Horned Frogs (6-2) are off to their best start in 10 years after beating the Panthers (1-8).
J.R. Cadot had 15 points and nine rebounds for TCU, which hasn't started this strong since opening the 2000-01 season 8-2. The Frogs shot 51.7 percent and had four double-figure scorers.
■ Colorado State 78, Drake 67 -- At Fort Collins, Colo., Andy Ogide had 18 points and 10 rebounds for his eighth career double-double to lift the Rams (3-1) past the Bulldogs (2-4). Colorado State had a 39-29 rebounding advantage.
■ South Dakota 80, Wyoming 70 -- At Vermillion, S.D., Louie Krogman hit six 3-pointers and totaled 29 points to lead the Coyotes (3-4) past the Cowboys (2-5). Charlie Westbrook scored 14 points to lead Wyoming, which shot 38 percent.
