Pete Weber retains lead in PBA Senior U.S. Open at Suncoast

Pete Weber continued to set the pace after third-round qualifying Wednesday in the Suncoast PBA Senior U.S. Open at Suncoast Bowling Center.

Weber, who won a record five U.S. Open titles on the PBA Tour, bowled a 1,428 six-game pinfall total to bring his 18-game qualifying pinfall to 4,181 (232.3 average) in leading 53 players into Thursday’s final qualifying round.

Amleto Monacelli, the two-time defending champion, is second with a 4,093 pinfall, followed by Norm Duke (4,091), Akio Ishihara (4,018) and Brian Voss (4,011). Ron Mohr of North Las Vegas is eighth at 3,935.

After Thursday’s final eight-game qualifying round, the top 24 players will advance to match play Thursday afternoon and Friday to determine the top four players for the stepladder finals at 4 p.m. Friday.
