Tired Gorman prevails without sharpest effort

Even without its best effort, Bishop Gorman's baseball team was good enough to win handily Saturday.
The Gaels committed four errors and watched a pop fly drop in the infield, but the area's top-ranked team was still too much for Gulliver Prep (Fla.), defeating the Raiders 11-4 to win the Calvary Chapel Tournament.
"Not a tremendous effort, but we beat a good club and played well enough to win," Gorman coach Chris Sheff said.
Sheff acknowledged that fatigue might have played a role. The Gaels, ranked fourth in the nation by Baseball America, were playing their 11th game in two weeks.
"We've had kind of a tough week and were coming off a tough week," Sheff said. "We had six games last week and another five in five days this week, so I think guys are a little bit tired."
Gorman scored in each of the first four innings. Neil Lawhorn's three-run homer in the third gave the Gaels a 5-1 lead, and they added six runs in the fourth to make the score 11-3.
