Two-out, ninth-inning double sends UNLV to baseball defeat

UNLV reliever Adam Moser gave up a two-out, run-scoring double in the ninth inning to Ben Carruthers as Texas Christian defeated the Rebels 4-3 on Friday in Fort Worth, Texas.
Xavier Scruggs went 3-for-4, including his Mountain West Conference-leading ninth home run of the season, for the Rebels (14-17, 5-5). UNLV, which tied the score 3-3 in the seventh, stranded 14 runners.
• UNLV SOFTBALL -- The Rebels (21-24-1, 1-4 MWC) fell behind 4-0 and lost 4-3 to Utah at Eller Media Stadium.
Stephanie Bregante (12-13) took the loss, giving up all four runs in 2 2/3 innings.
• UNLV WOMEN'S TENNIS -- The Rebels defeated Wyoming 6-1 in a neutral-site MWC match in San Diego.
The doubles teams of Elena Gantcheva-Kristina Nedeltcheva, Sharon Marin-Alisa Razina and Anna Masakljun-Katy Williams won their matches for UNLV (12-8, 4-2 MWC), and Gantcheva, Nedeltcheva, Nikol Dimitrova, Williams and Maskaljun won in singles.
• CSN BASEBALL -- The College of Southern Nevada split a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader at Colorado Northwestern Community College.
The Spartans scored two runs in the seventh inning to win the first game, 3-2. The Coyotes (27-14, 16-10 SWAC) responded with a 5-4 win in 10 innings in the second game.
• CSN SOFTBALL -- The Coyotes were swept at North Idaho College, 7-5 and 6-3.
Priscilla Arzaga hit a two-run homer and Lindsey Headley went 3-for-3 in the first game for CSN (22-18, 17-13 SWAC). Nikki Ortiz hit a two-run homer in the second game.
