UFC signs unbeaten prospect Cummins to fight Cormier

Daniel Cormier will make his light heavyweight debut at UFC 170 after all.

A day after it looked as if he would be off the Feb. 22 card at Mandalay Bay because of an injury to opponent Rashad Evans, Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White announced the organization had signed unbeaten prospect Patrick Cummins, and he will fight Cormier.

Cummins, a two-time All-America wrestler at Penn State, has won all four of his professional mixed martial arts fights.

Cormier, who has won all 13 of his professional fights and is 2-0 in the UFC, is dropping down to 205 pounds after spending his entire career at heavyweight. The organization planned on dropping him off the card, but Cormier asked for a replacement opponent so his weight cut wouldn’t be wasted.

The pay-per-view event is headlined by women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who will defend her title against Sara McMann.
