UNLV baseball comes up short against UNR

The UNLV baseball team lost to UNR 3-2 on Saturday at Wilson Stadium.
Brandon Bayardi had an RBI single for UNLV (6-5) in the first inning, and Trent Cook had an RBI on a fielder's choice in the eighth.
The Wolf Pack (6-4) got the winning runs on Brooks Klein's two-run homer in the top of the eighth. Jay Anderson had an RBI single for UNR in the fifth inning.
■ UNLV MEN'S TENNIS -- The Rebels rallied to beat Air Force 4-3 in a Mountain West Conference match at Air Force Academy, Colo.
The Falcons (5-5) won two of three doubles matches to get the first point, but UNLV took four of six singles matches, including the clincher from Charlie Alvarado at the No. 5 slot.
Alvarado trailed Alex Lineberry 5-2 in the third set, then won five straight games for a 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 victory.
■ UNLV SOFTBALL -- The Rebels dropped both their games in the Eller Media Stadium Classic, losing 9-5 to Florida Atlantic and 3-2 to Illinois.
After Florida Atlantic (6-12) scored five runs in the top of the third inning, UNLV (9-9) rallied to tie the score with a run in the third and four in the fourth. Paige Emerson's two-run double keyed the rally.
The Owls scored four runs in the sixth inning.
Tayler Aleman accounted for all of UNLV's runs against Illinois (8-9) with a two-run homer in the first inning.
■ CSN BASEBALL -- The College of Southern Nevada split a doubleheader against Salt Lake Community College, winning 4-3 and losing 9-2 at Morse Stadium.
In the opener, after Salt Lake tied the score at 3 in the top of the seventh inning, Jack LaMarca's one-out RBI single won the game for the Coyotes (14-6, 1-3 Scenic West Athletic Conference).
Salt Lake (12-3, 3-1) broke open the second game with a five-run fifth inning.
■ CSN SOFTBALL -- The Coyotes (12-16, 7-9 SWAC) blew out Colorado Northwestern two more times to complete a four-game sweep, winning 17-1 and 6-0 at the Russell Road Recreation Complex. CSN outscored Colorado Northwestern 34-1 in the series.
