UNLV men’s swimming team finishes tied for 26th in NCAA Championships

The UNLV men’s swimming and diving team finished in a tie for 26th place Saturday in the NCAA Championships in Iowa City, Iowa, the Rebels’ fifth top-30 finish in the past six seasons.

Texas won the team title with 528 points, followed by California (399) and Michigan (312). UNLV scored 20 points to tie Florida State for 26th.

UNLV’s scoring Saturday came from its 13th-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of juniors Tom Paco-Pedroni, Dillon Virva and Henrique Machado and sophomore Or Sabatier finished in 2 minutes, 52.04 seconds.

In the morning preliminaries, that quartet set a UNLV and Western Athletic Conference record in the relay, placing 11th in 2:51.97.

Paco-Pedroni placed 18th in the 100 freestyle preliminaries in 42.68 seconds, 0.10 seconds off his school record and 0.07 seconds out of a spot in the consolation heat.
