UNLV swimmers set school record in 200-yard freestyle relay at NCAA Championships

A record-setting relay performance left the UNLV men’s swimming and diving team tied for 20th place after the first day of the NCAA Championships on Thursday in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Rebels’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of juniors Dillon Virva, Tom Paco-Pedroni and Samuel Lemeynardie and sophomore Or Sabatier placed 10th in the morning preliminaries to earn a spot in the consolation heat. Its time of 1 minute, 17.12 seconds set a UNLV record and broke the Western Athletic Conference mark by 0.18 seconds.

Junior Henrique Machado replaced Lemeynardie as anchor in the consolation heat and helped the team place 11th in 1:17.64.

Texas leads the team standings with 171 points, followed by California (119) and Florida (108). UNLV, which will participate in four events today, has 12 points.
