Lady Rebels come up short on road vs. Santa Clara
January 1, 2013 - 2:01 am
The UNLV women's basketball team got a lot of scoring from three players. Just not quite enough.
Kelli Thompson, Alana Cesarz and Danielle Miller combined for 59 points, but their teammates accounted for just five points in a 70-64 loss to Santa Clara on Monday in Santa Clara, Calif.
Thompson had a season-high 29 points, Cesarz had 18 and Miller 12. Ricki Radanovich led the Broncos with 19 points, hitting 4 of 7 from 3-point range.
The game was tied at 29 at halftime and again at 37 with 17:29 remaining, but the Broncos went on an 8-0 run, and UNLV (4-10) got no closer than five the rest of the way.
Santa Clara (8-5) twice stretched the lead to 11, including at 68-57 with 1:10 left, but Thompson hit two 3-pointers to pull UNLV within 68-63.
The Lady Rebels are off until Jan. 9, when they open Mountain West Conference play against New Mexico at Cox Pavilion.
