Lady Rebels fall to 23rd-ranked Texas

Chassidy Fussell scored 21 points to lead the No. 23-ranked Texas women's basketball team to an 85-59 victory over UNLV in the second round of the BTI Classic on Sunday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Kathleen Nash had 19 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Longhorns (7-3), who took a 38-33 lead into intermission and then shot 60 percent (18-for-30) in the second half to pull away. For the game, Texas shot 49.2 percent compared to the Lady Rebels' 35.6 percent.

Kelli Thompson's 15 points paced UNLV (5-5), which lost its third straight game and fourth in its past five.

Though Texas held a slim 41-38 edge in rebounds, the Lady Rebels committed 18 turnovers, and the Lady Longhorns converted them into 28 points. UNLV turned nine Texas turnovers into nine points.

Ta'Nitra Byrd had 10 points and Jamie Smith a game-high nine rebounds for the Lady Rebels.
