Lady Rebels fend off rally to beat Wolf Pack

The UNLV women's basketball team beat instate rival UNR 66-61 on Wednesday night in a Mountain West matchup in Reno.

The Lady Rebels (7-13, 3-3) led 33-27 at halftime and stretched the advantage to 43-31 with 14 minutes remaining. But the Wolf Pack (6-13, 1-5) slowly chipped away at the deficit, pulling within 58-56 on a Danika Sharp 3-pointer with 3:20 left.

UNLV's Kelli Thompson answered with a 3-pointer to spark a 6-2 run that put the game away.

Thompson led the Lady Rebels with 20 points, playing all 40 minutes, and Amie Callaway had 12 points and eight rebounds. Sharp led UNR with 22 points, hitting 5 of 9 from 3-point range.

UNLV has won its past five meetings with UNR, including three in Reno.
