Lady Rebels rally past New Mexico

The UNLV women's basketball team knocked off New Mexico 65-59 Wednesday night in a Mountain West Conference game in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Lobos (14-8, 6-4 MWC) led 36-26 at halftime and 44-35 early in the second half, but the Lady Rebels (11-13, 4-6) went on a 17-0 run to take control.

Mia Bell's 3-pointer put UNLV ahead 45-44 with 10:49 remaining, and it never trailed again. India Chaney capped the run with a layup that put the Lady Rebels up 52-44.

The lead twice dwindled to one, but UNLV held on, with Jamie Smith's steal and two free throws clinching the victory in the final seconds.

Erica Helms led the Lady Rebels with 17 points, seven assists and three steals, and Chaney and Smith had 10 points apiece.

Amanda Best had 18 points for New Mexico.
