UNLV basketball drops to No. 20 in national rankings

The UNLV basketball team slipped three spots to No. 20 in both The Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today coaches' polls released today.

The Rebels (25-7) split a pair of games last week to conclude Mountain West Conference regular-season play, falling at Colorado State 66-59 on Wednesday before beating Wyoming 74-63 on Senior Night at the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday.

UNLV finished third in the Mountain West Conference race with a 9-5 record, one game behind co-champions San Diego State and New Mexico. The Rebels will open play in the MWC Tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center on Thursday with an 8:30 p.m. game against No. 6 seed Wyoming.

The Aztecs (24-6) won two games last week to move up to No. 18 (from No. 21) in the media poll and up to No. 21 (from No. 23) in the coaches' poll. The Lobos (24-6) also won a pair of games last week but did not move into the national rankings.

The top five in both polls are the same this week: Kentucky (30-1), Syracuse (30-1), Kansas (26-5), North Carolina (27-4) and Missouri (27-4).
