UNLV Lopez-Sosa will return for senior season

UNLV forward Carlos Lopez-Sosa confirmed he will return for his senior season. A fourth-year junior from Findlay Prep, he is on schedule to graduate this summer and had options of transferring or turning professional.

“Carlos and I met a number of times after the season, and I told him I thought he could be an extremely important part of our team this coming year,” coach Dave Rice said Wednesday. “He will be the only senior on our team, and he’s been a terrific leader for us.”

Lopez-Sosa averaged 2.2 points and 8.7 minutes while playing in 28 of 35 games for the Rebels last season.

■ MEN’S TENNIS — UNLV’s Ace Matias was named Mountain West men’s tennis player of the week for the second straight week and third time this season. Matias went 2-0 at No. 1 singles to improve to 22-7, and he split two doubles matches to help the Rebels post road wins over New Mexico and Air Force.
