UNLV moves up a spot to No. 20; Duke still No. 1

UNLV moved up one spot to No. 20 in The Associated Press men's college basketball poll released Monday.

The Rebels (11-1) won three times last week, squeaking by Texas-El Paso on the road and beating Northern Iowa and Canisius at home.

UNLV plays at North Carolina on Saturday. The Tar Heels dropped out of the top 25 this week after losing to Texas.

San Diego State (11-1) is the highest-ranked Mountain West team at No. 17. New Mexico (12-1), which had been No. 16, dropped out after a stunning home loss to South Dakota State.

UNLV was 17th in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll, one spot behind San Diego State.

Duke (11-0) and Michigan (12-0) remained the top two teams in the AP poll, but Syracuse (10-1) dropped from third to ninth after its first loss.

The Blue Devils received all but two of the first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel. Michigan got the other two votes.
