Linebacker Jackson visits Rebels following Blinn College teammate

Blinn College linebacker Princeton Jackson is reportedly visiting UNLV this weekend after the Rebels last week hosted his teammate, offensive lineman Josh McNeill.

Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, is one of the nation's top junior college programs, perhaps best known as the school where Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Cam Newton spent a year before leading Auburn to the national championship this past season.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 230-pound Jackson is a Rivals.com three-star prospect and was a National Junior College Athletic Association first-team All-American.

UNLV has two recruiting weekends left before the Feb. 2 signing date.

Despite an Internet report that linebacker Rodney Young (6-2, 195), a Rivals and Scout.com three-star prospect, was highly interested in UNLV, the Rebels apparently don't have room for Young.

"They did (have interest), but they're full," said Young, who attends Houston's Dekaney High School.

UNLV hopes to retain Scout three-star cornerback Fred Wilson (5-11, 165) as a commitment from West High in Bakersfield, Calif. He will visit UCLA on Jan. 28.

The Bruins appear to be more interested in Vista High cornerback Stefan McClure, considered the top recruit in the San Diego area. He is visiting Michigan after spending last weekend at UCLA.

If McClure chooses UCLA, Wilson's commitment to UNLV is probably safe.

■ NOTE -- Rebels linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator Brent Guy has been hired as Tulsa's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Guy was previously Utah State's head coach and served as defensive coordinator at three schools.
