UNLV signs JC quarterback

UNLV signed Kurt Palandech of Laney College in Oakland, Calif., and he will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

He redshirted in one season at North Dakota and then arrived at Laney last year. Palandech passed for 1,634 yards and 17 touchdowns, and he rushed for 390 yards and five TDs, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

“He’s a stud, man,” Laney coach John Beam said Monday. “He’s very intelligent. He runs a 4.5 (in the 40-yard dash). He has a quick release. The ball gets out of his hand fast.”

Beam said Laney operated a pro style offense and used some pistol “to take advantage of his running ability.”

Palandech (6 feet 2 inches, 180 pounds) beat out returning starter Garrett Anderson last season at Laney. Beam said Anderson had received attention from several colleges until then.

“(Palandech) didn’t arrive till June, and everybody was looking at our quarterback from the year before,” Beam said.
