Williams bowls into top spot at Senior Masters at South Point

Walter Ray Williams Jr. earned top qualifier honors Wednesday at the United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters at the South Point Bowling Center.

Williams, a hall of famer from Ocala, Fla., finished with a 15-game total of 3,553 (236.8 average) to lead a field of 310 bowlers age 50 and older. Jack Jurek, Brian Voss, Jim Starks and defending champ Pete Weber round out the top five qualifiers.

The top 64 players advanced to the double-elimination match-play bracket, which begins at 8 a.m. Thursday. The stepladder finals are at 3 p.m. Friday.
