Wisconsin running back Corey Clement was injured during an off-campus altercation early Sunday morning.
The university said Thursday that the junior suffered a cut on a hand in the incident involving a verbal altercation between a security guard and a group of people at Clement's apartment building in Madison, Wis.
After Clement became involved in the dispute, the school said he and security guards were assaulted. A police investigation is still being conducted.
Clement has missed most of No. 23 Wisconsin's season after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia. He played in the team's first two games but has yet to return to action.
On Wednesday, Clement was at the Badgers' practice but did not participate while continuing to rehab from the hernia injury.
The Badgers are off this weekend with a bye.
It was unclear whether Clement will face any team or school disciplinary action.
"Because of an ongoing police investigation, no one connected to the football program will have any further comment," the university said in its statement.
