Wolf Pack claw back from 10 down, defeat Air Force

RENO — Deonte Burton scored 22 points, Kevin Panzer added 10 points and 14 rebounds, and UNR made a late surge to gain a 74-69 victory over Air Force on Saturday.

UNR (12-11, 3-6 Mountain West) trailed 61-51 with 5:32 to play after Kyle Green’s 3-pointer capped a 24-10 run by Air Force (14-8, 5-4). The Wolf Pack answered with a 21-6 surge and snapped a three-game losing streak.

Marqueze Coleman made the play that put UNR ahead to stay, stealing the ball from Michael Lyons, making a layup and getting fouled with 31 seconds left. His free throw completed the three-point play, giving the Wolf Pack a 69-67 lead. They made 5 of 6 free throws thereafter to clinch the victory.

Malik Story had 16 points for UNR but shot 4-for-15, including 2-for-11 on 3-pointers.

Mike Fitzgerald had 17 points for Air Force. Taylor Broekhuis scored 13 and Lyons 10.

■ San Diego State 75, Fresno State 53 — At San Diego, Jamaal Franklin scored the 1,000th point of his career, and the Aztecs (18-5, 6-3) breezed past the Bulldogs (8-14, 2-7).

Franklin scored 14 points, and his 11 rebounds gave him 500 in his three-year career. James Rahon also scored 14.

“It is a good accomplishment, but I’m just glad we won,” Franklin said. “A lot of people have done it. At the end of the day, the accomplishment would have been bad if we lost.”

The Aztecs used a 13-0 run in the second half to win for the fourth time in five games. They fell out of The Associated Press Top 25 for the second time this season Monday after a three-point loss at Air Force on Feb. 2. San Diego State rebounded to beat Boise State 63-62 at home Wednesday, rallying after blowing a 17-point, first-half lead.

Freshman Winston Shepard scored 10 for the Aztecs, who have a tough week with games at Colorado State on Wednesday and at UNLV on Saturday.

Tyler Johnson had 14 points and Braeden Anderson 12 for Fresno State, which was coming off a 64-55 home victory over UNLV on Wednesday.
