Wrestlers give bang for betting buck

Few days throughout the year provide as little opportunity for sports bettors as the Sunday between the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday and Monday night's national championship game.

Opening Day of Major League Baseball -- well, at least the U.S. start of the season, after that debacle of a two-game series in Japan -- still is a few days away.

Sure, you can bet the women's Final Four games, but you have to be a degenerate to get in on that action.

Fortunately for those who need a fix at the window, the biggest spectacle in sports entertainment takes place Sunday night. Yes, Wrestlemania XXVIII is this weekend, and several offshore books are taking action.

But wrestling is scripted, you might say.

World Wrestling Entertainment does such a good job protecting the secrets of the predetermined outcomes that several books feel comfortable booking bets on the event.

According to the website Deadspin, even the wrestlers involved might not find out until just before Wrestlemania who is going to win.

In the main event, John Cena has been installed as a minus-270 favorite over The Rock.

The biggest favorite is The Undertaker, who is 19-0 at Wrestlemania. He is a minus-1,500 favorite over Triple H.

Don't be surprised if Tim Donaghy appears as a guest referee and misses someone getting hit with a steel chair.

■ SPICY SALE -- The typical garage sale involves some suburban schlub trying to unload useless trinkets for a couple of bucks.

Guys all over the country often are left trying to unload whatever their wives have collected through the years.

For an international sports icon who is one-half of one of the most famous celebrity couples in the world, the concept of a garage sale is more literal.

Soccer star David Beckham, who is rumored to soon be putting his English mansion dubbed "Beckingham Palace" on the market, has decided to sell off his ridiculously expensive car collection.

Beckham, who plays and lives in Los Angeles with his ex-Spice Girl wife, Victoria, has amassed a collection in England that includes two Bentleys, a BMW 645, a Range Rover Sport and a Lamborghini Gallardo, according to Bang Showbiz.

Also up for sale are three Harley-Davidson motorbikes.

The items are expected to sell for much more than "Spice World" DVDs, which are available for $1.99 in a bin in the back of Walmarts everywhere.

■ SUPER FAN -- No one can question the allegiances of the late Jesse Joe Hernandez.

The 47-year-old Texan was executed Wednesday for the 2001 beating death of a 10-month-old boy who had been left in Hernandez's care. He beat the boy and his 4-year-old sister with a flashlight, but the girl survived the attack.

According to an Associated Press report, Hernandez laughed at times as he received a lethal injection. "God bless everybody. Continue to walk with God," he said. Then he shouted "Go Cowboys!"

God issued a statement declaring his resentment at being grouped with such an embarrassing franchise.
