2 children hurt in 15-foot Ferris wheel fall

CHELSEA, Mich. — Authorities say two children are recovering from injuries after falling at least 15 feet from a Ferris wheel at a community fair in southeastern Michigan.

Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth says a state inspector is examining the ride Friday at the Chelsea Community Fair, 15 miles west of Ann Arbor.

Witnesses told The Ann Arbor News that the children fell 15 to 20 feet out of a Ferris wheel cab on Thursday night. Alex Keszler says the cab “just dumped the kids out.”

Toth and fair president Rick Boham say it’s still not clear how it happened. Boham says a boy has been released from a hospital while a girl remains there for observation.

The nature of their injuries wasn’t known.
