Alabama residents angry after KKK places recruitment flyers on lawns

Residents in a Mobile, Ala., neighborhood said they are upset after flyers were dropped on their lawns asking the community to join the Ku Klux Klan for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, WPMI reported.

According to residents, the Ku Klux Klan members stuffed recruitment flyers inside sandwich bags and placed them on lawns throughout the neighborhood.

"I saw what was in it, some cards and a little flyer. I picked it up and read it and it pretty much shocked me," a neighbor said.

The flyer, which sarcastically wishes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a happy birthday, reads, "The blacks have NAACP, the Mexicans have La Raza, the Jews have JDL, and white people have the KKK."

In addition to the flyer, the sandwich bag also included a card with a phone number for the Loyal White Knights.

After dialing the number, WPMI found it connects to a graphic recording which portrays extreme messages about the civil rights leader.

Although neighbors don't believe anyone was specifically targeted for recruitment, many questioned why the KKK chose their Midtown neighborhood.

"Luckily I didn't get one on my door. I think a neighbor must have come by and grabbed it before we could see it, but I'm kind of shocked to see something like that on our street," resident Tricia Butts said.
