Angle, Reid swap charges in new commercials
Believing she has found an effective message that is moving Nevadans into her corner, Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle is unveiling another TV ad (below) hitting Sen. Harry Reid on immigration.
Quick on the counter, the Reid camp came out with a new commercial today (below) attacking Angle on job outsourcing, calling her "a foreign worker's best friend."
Welcome to the latest round of the advertising wars in the Nevada Senate race, less than two weeks before early voting commences on Oct. 16.
The illegal immigration spot would be the third commercial Angle has produced since mid-September promoting the theme that the Democratic incumbent is friendly to illegals at the expense of taxpayers, citing in part his effort last month as Senate majority leader to pass the DREAM Act.
Reid's campaign says the attacks on immigration are "more crazy talk and outright lies," while Angle says Reid is "running from his record."
Reid spokesman Jon Summers said today that "these attacks have been proven false by multiple outlets." Politifact examined the charges here and here.
In response to Reid's charge on job outsourcing, Angle has said during the campaign that the way to keep jobs in the United States is to cut the corporate income tax.
Angle's campaign aides contend the illegal immigration commercials are moving numbers in the race. They argue that is what is behind the Fox News poll released earlier today that has her over Reid by a 49 percent to 46 percent margin.
At least one Nevada political scientist has questioned the poll, saying it is out of step with other recent polls that show the race tied or with Reid in a slight lead.
In response, Angle spokesman Jarrod Agen says "the illegal immigration messaging has motivated the shift" to Angle. Republicans monitoring the Nevada race from Washington are telling reporters the same thing this week.
