Berkley celebrates Yucca nuke dump ‘death’

Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., couldn't go to the Ghost Bar Tuesday night to join an event to celebrate the demise of a proposal to store nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain at the Nevada Test Site.
But Berkley, a longtime foe of the nuke dump plan, sent a letter to be read to those who could attend.
"This united front and our collective will stood against waves of enemies that were said to be too powerful for Nevada to resist. Time and again we were told: 'Give up, roll over, read the writing on the wall, NEGOTIATE now or get nothing.' But we never surrendered and never stopped believing that we could turn back the nuclear giant, no matter its size or fortune," Berkley wrote.
The party at Ghost Bar at the Palms was organized after the Department of Energy filed paperwork to terminate construction licensing paperwork for the proposed underground storage facility that would have held radioactive waste from nuclear power plants around the nation.
