Carter’s back on the stump!

Former President Jimmy Carter is heading to New York City to raise money for his grandson, Georgia state Sen. Jason Carter, who’s running to succeed his famous grandfather as governor of Georgia. (He was not extended a warm welcome by the Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post, apparently for the sin of not saying “yay, America” enough.)

Let’s just hope that Carter’s efforts on behalf of Jason Carter are somewhat more effective than they were in 2006, when he visited Las Vegas to campaign for his son, Jack Carter, who was at the time running against then-U.S. Sen. John Ensign.

Jack Carter lost that race 55 percent to 41 percent, despite his dad’s endorsement. Why, former President Carter and Jack Carter even appeared on a little TV show that aired on KTNV Channel 13 at the time called “Political Insiders.” Clearly, the exposure didn’t help.

Ensign went on to implode spectacularly in one of the ickier sex scandals seen in Washington, D.C.
