SPRING MOUNTAINS EMPLOYEES HONORED FOR IMPROVING FOREST ACCESSIBILITY
Several Spring Mountains National Recreation Area employees were recently honored with an Accessibility Team Award .
The employees were recognized for their efforts to integrate accessibility into national forests and grasslands facilities to better serve visitors.
Recent examples of U.S. Forest Service construction efforts to incorporate design features that aid in accessibility include the Cathedral Rock Picnic Area, which opened in May, and the Desert View Overlook, set to open in July. Both projects started in summer 2012.
CITIZEN OF THE MONTH NOMINEES SOUGHT
Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross is looking to recognize Ward 6 residents who help others or donate time to worthwhile causes.
Ross’ Citizen of the Month Award is set to be issued through summer.

ART FROM THE HEART CLOSING
TENAYA WAY STUDIO
Art From the Heart, a coffee and art studio at 4020 N. Tenaya Way, plans to close at the end of June.
The facility opened in 1995 and was taken over by Barbara Sindelir in 1997. It was in a neighborhood strip mall on the northwest corner of Alexander Road. Sindelir said the sluggish economy was the reason for the closure.
Students with art displayed in the final exhibit will need to claim their works.

PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS INVITED
TO JOIN WESTSIDE NEWCOMERS JULY 3
The Westside Newcomers Club plans to host a coffee event for prospective members at 10:30 a.m. July 3 at Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church, 2004 Spring Gate Lane.
The coffee events are planned for the first Wednesday of each month.
The social club is for women who have lived in the area for 10 years or less or those who have life-changing events, such as retirement. A luncheon with a program is planned for the second Wednesday of each month.

BUS SERVICE CHANGES TO START JULY 7
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada plans to implement its annual transit service changes July 7.
After receiving public feedback, modifications will include increased frequencies, schedule and span-of-service adjustments and modifications to the Boulder Highway Express (BHX), the Henderson & Downtown Express (HDX), Route 212-Sunset Road and Route 402-Sunset/Boulder City. Also, boarding changes are proposed on the Sahara Express (SX), BHX and HDX.

CAMP CARTWHEEL SET FOR JULY
Registration is open for the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation’s 17th annual Camp Cartwheel Summer Camp for critically ill children and their siblings, planned for July 17-20 and 24-27 at Torino Ranch in Lovell Canyon.
The program includes swimming, scuba diving, arts and crafts, canoeing and outdoor games for campers, ages 5-17.
