Country in the Park today

Enjoy Country in the Park today with country music rising stars and help kids learn about the magic of books. Bring new and gently used books for Spread the Word Nevada at the eight annual Country in the Park outdoor concert and festival from 2 to 8 p.m. at Exploration Park in the Mountain’s Edge.

Pods of Las Vegas, which provides moving and storage solutions with portable storage containers, will be collecting books for the nonprofit organization at its Pods container booth during the free event. Spread the Word Nevada promotes literacy and provides books for children in Nevada.

Headlining the concert is Scotty McCreery, winner of “American Idol” Season 10, who will be joined by Danielle Bradbery, winner of “The Voice” Season 4. A local favorite, the Tony Marques Band opens the show from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by Bradbery from 5 to 5:45 p.m. and McCreery from 6 to 7:45 p.m.

Country in the Park is presented by Mountain’s Edge and KWNR-FM (95.5) “The Bull.”

In addition to the concert, attendees can take advantage of the 80-acre Exploration Park’s amenities, which include replicas of a Western town and Indian village, archaeology dig site, picnic areas, playgrounds, water play area and the 2,846-foot- Exploration Peak. This natural mountain park provides several walking, hiking and biking trails to the top and spectacular views of the entire valley. These are adjacent to the outdoor amphitheater venue for the concert.

Exploration Park is at 9725 S. Buffalo Drive, south of Blue Diamond Road.

The festival includes a beer garden, food vendors, booths and exhibits. Food vendors include Smoken Sams, Ben &Jerry’s, Papa Johns, Ma and Pa Kettle Corn, Chill Out Shaved Ice and Funnel Cake Café.

Attendees are invited to bring picnic baskets, blankets and chairs, and well-behaved dogs on leashes. No glass or coolers will be allowed in the park.
