Del Webb to celebrate opening of Community Recreation Center at Sun City Mesquite

Del Webb will celebrate the grand opening of the 30,000-square-foot Community Recreation Center at the company's age-qualified Sun City Mesquite community in Mesquite Nov. 17.

The public is invited to attend the celebration, which will take place at the center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature complimentary catered food and beverages, a live band and free putting clinics led by PGA championship golfer, Scott Hoch.

According to Nick Parks, director of marketing for Del Webb Nevada, the center is the company's newest and most advanced facility.

"The design of this facility is based on Del Webb's decades of experience in building age-qualified communities and it demonstrates the best practices we have learned in building those communities," Parks said. "In this Community Recreation Center, we've incorporated amenities that have proven to be in demand among today's active adults, along with several new features we identified through conducting research among our existing homeowners and potential future buyers. The result is a wonderful Community Recreation Center that is going to be a very popular gathering spot for Sun City Mesquite residents and their guests."

Parks said this is the only time the general public will have access to the center.

"After Saturday, it will be accessible exclusively to residents of Sun City Mesquite," he said.

The center will provide residents with a complete range of recreational and social opportunities. Inside, it features a large, climate-controlled swimming pool, which will be used for activities such as lap swimming and water aerobics classes.

Other indoor features include a heated spa, a two-story fitness center with an upper-level walking track (offering panoramic views of the nearby mesa), kitchen, central hall, lounge with a plasma screen television, computer kiosks and rooms designated for various classes, hobbies and clubs.

A highlight of the outdoor area is an 18-hole putting green designed by award-winning golf course architect Gary Panks, of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Other outdoor features include a climate-controlled swimming pool designed for recreation, with lounge chairs and shaded areas, two heated spas and tennis, bocce and pickle ball courts.

"We are especially pleased to have this magnificent Community Recreation Center completed in time for our first residents to enjoy it," Parks said. "Having something like this completed in such an early phase of development is a rarity among communities of this kind, where the first residents can sometimes wait for up to two years before their recreational facilities open."

Parks said the community has sold more than 200 homes and has had 50 closings since it opened earlier this year.

"Sun City Mesquite is located in an attractive natural setting and a desirable, small-town atmosphere," he said. "Along with providing residents with the finest in recreational, medical, retail and entertainment facilities, the town's convenient location along I-15 provides an easy commute to both the excitement of Las Vegas and the quiet beauty of some of the nation's most impressive national parks."

Upon completion, the project will comprise about 3,400 homes. Buyers have a selection of 12 single-story designs that range from 1,200 to 3,100 square feet with two- or three-car garages. Prices start in the $180,000s.

Sun City Mesquite is the flagship community of the Anthem Mesquite community. Central to the community is an 18-hole golf course, which was also designed by Gary Panks and is expected to open after 2008.

To visit, take Interstate 15 north to exit 120 and make a sharp left turn onto Falcon Ridge. Follow Falcon Ridge past Mesa View Hospital and Hardy Way. Turn right on Flat Top Mesa and continue to the Sun City Mesquite model village. For more information visit suncitymesquite.com.

Del Webb is a subsidiary of Pulte Homes Inc., one of the nation's largest home builders.

In addition to Sun City Anthem, Del Webb's age-qualified communities in Southern Nevada include Solera at Anthem, Solera at Stallion Mountain, Sun City Aliante and the all-ages communities of The Club at Aliante and The Club at Madeira Canyon.
