PICK OF THE WEEK:
EL TIZON
3266 Las Vegas Blvd. North
at East Cheyenne Avenue, 878-4966
I'm always looking for a great-tasting taco that has the flavor and spices reminiscent of Mexico ---- the real Mexico. El Tizon meets that challenge with tacos featuring al pastor (marinated pork), carne asada (beef steak), pechuga de pollo (chicken breast), lengua (beef tongue) or barbacoa (marinated beef). Add something extra such as guacamole, avocado, cheese, sour cream or pico de gallo. The same meats are used for the quesadillas with cheese, burritos with rice and baked pinto beans, super nachos with pinto beans, guacamole, and cheese, or tortas, those Mexican sandwiches made with mayo, lettuce, tomatoes and avocado. Combination plates come with pinto beans, rice, guacamole, grilled onions and tortillas. Beef or cheese taquitos (rolled corn tacos) are served with guacamole, cheese and sour cream. Several salads, made with lettuce, tomato, avocado, chips and cheddar, can include chicken breast or beef steak and are served with ranch or sour cream dressing. Menudo is available Saturday and Sunday only. A single taco starts at $1.28 and combination plates at $9.50. El Tizon is open from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday. -- Jack Bulavsky
